DOLE - PURE ACTIVE WATER
Dole Foods is is among the world's largest producers of fruit and vegetables, operating with 38,500 full-time and seasonal employees who supply some 300 products in 75 countries.
As part of their ongoing commitment to sustainability, Dole launched the Sunshine fund, a $2 million annual fund that supports global strategic partnerships and innovation in the crucial areas of sustainability, food access and waste.
One of the first products tested was Pure Active Water, a revolutionary new way to disinfect produce without using chlorine and saving 70% water usage.
THE PROBLEM
Dole's pilot programme with Pure Active Water was a great success. The pilot which took place in Dole's pineapple processing plant in the southern Philippines was a considerable breakthrough in terms of water usage, costs saved, time to market and zero use of chlorine.
The problem lay in explaining the complex technology along with the problems they hoped to solve.
Dole wanted to inspire other innovators to join the Sunshine fund building on the success of Pure Active Water.
CONCEPT
Citron Violet told the story of Dole's partnership with Pure Active Water in 3 parts.
Our crew in the Philippines spent time at the Dole pineapple plantation, interviewing the workers in the field and the processing plant about the issues they encountered disinfecting produce to make it ready for market.
Another crew spoke with Pure Active Water to understand how the technlogoy works.
Finally we conducted interviews with Dole executives at their regional HQ in Singapore about the benefits of the Sunshine fund and how excited they were about the success of Pure Active Water.
RESULTS
The Pure Active Water campaign was a success leading to Dole saving considerable amounts of water at their Philippines pineapple processing plant.
The next step is for Dole to roll our Pure Active Water into all their Pineapple plants to multiply the water saving benefits whilst reducing the use of harmful chemicals.
Meanwhile the Sunshine fund has gathered increased momentum following the videos release, with Dole being sent innovations from around the world to be considered for their next pilots.
